[ad]One of the biggest questions that comes up for bloggers is how much should I charge for advertising. The answer is as simple is it is complex. Not to hurt anyone’s feelings, but selling or buying advertising is a lot like doing the same for cars. If you don’t have to ask how much either one costs, then you probably can’t afford it. The corollary to that is if you don’t know how much your ad space is worth, then you probably shouldn’t be selling it.
I have two kinds of advertising on this blog. The first kind lets my advertising partners have direct control over the ads supplied. Companies like Adsense, AdBrite, Bidvertiser, Chitika, and inlink all supply banner banners and text ads and all you have to do is put the ad code into your site. I personally like Adbrite because it has more control over what is served and works better for lower traffic blogs. The second type of advertising is direct sales advertising where you collect all the profits. The down side to this is you normally have to hunt for advertisers unless you have a very popular blog.
Personally I am still trying to work the right mix of the two options, but I will guarantee you are better off using both methods.
